About
A researched, hand-written guide to the design studios actually working in New York.
Finding a New York design agency should be easy: hundreds exist, many excellent. In practice, search results bury you in vague listicles, closed studios, and global networks passing as local — and almost none tell you the size, ownership, and staffing that actually shape the work.
This site fixes that for one city, with enough depth to deserve its own directory.
Every profile is researched and written individually, never scraped or templated. For each studio we confirm it is trading, verify the office, establish ownership, and source client work to public references — saying so plainly where a studio publishes no roster.
Rankings are editorial judgments based on strength and range of verified work, specialism, longevity, and client fit, applied consistently and explained in full on the methodology page.
If we cannot source a client name, an award, or a statistic, it does not appear. A vague profile is better than a confident wrong one.
Studios that have closed, merged, or been absorbed are removed or updated. A directory that leaves dead agencies in place is wasting your time.
We don't publish scores, star ratings, or percentage matches that imply a rigor the underlying data doesn't support.
Several strong studios serving New York have no office here. We list them as remote and let you decide whether that matters.
Founders choosing their first branding partner and trying to work out what a fair scope looks like.
Marketing and brand leads building a shortlist to take into a formal RFP.
Product teams looking for a studio that can handle complex software rather than a portfolio of marketing sites.
Institutions, museums, and nonprofits that need studios with relevant sector experience and realistic budgets.
If you already know exactly which three agencies you want to talk to, you probably don't need us. If you're starting from a blank page, this is the shortcut.
This directory is published by a team working in the design industry, which means we know the market well and also have relationships within it. Where a listed agency has a connection to anyone involved in producing this site, that relationship is disclosed on the relevant profile.
We think disclosure is more useful than claiming a distance from the industry that no informed directory could honestly have. Judge the rankings against the criteria on the methodology page, and tell us where you think we've got it wrong.
Agencies can submit themselves for consideration, and anyone can flag a factual error. If we have a location wrong, an ownership status out of date, or a client attribution that isn't accurate, we want to know — and we'll fix it.
Submissions go through the same verification as every other listing.
Fifteen verified studios, profiled in full, with locations, specialisms, ownership, and the kind of client each one actually fits.
